Malabar Grey Hornbill

On a recent, hasty trip to Kalladikode-Palakkad, I saw two Malabar Grey Hornbills high up in a tree. They were efficiently camouflaged in the canopy and was hard to see if not for the strange sound they make. The male has a reddish-orange bill and the female has a yellow bill. The male is known to fetch food and feed the female affectionately.

Below is my rendition using color pencils. Comments are welcome.

Black Naped Oriole

I happened to see this one in the woods of Kalladikode, Palakkad, Kerala. It is called "Black Naped Oriole". This one has its habitat in India and it is a partial migrant. It was a joy sketching with color pencils after a long break. Comments are welcome.

Dinosaurs have always fascinated me. They are extinct and nobody knows what they looked like. Therefore we have the artistic freedom of designing from the scratch. Scientific materials and speculations are a good start for the research. I chose the Velociraptor and of course, the best possible reference for the Velociraptors have been the Jurassic Park film series. A less focused Velociraptor appears in Peter Jackson's "King Kong".

This is my version of the Velociraptor. The base mesh was modeled in Maya, details were sculpted in Zbrush, textures were hand painted in Photoshop and rendered using Marmoset Toolbag. Post production was done in Photoshop.

Comments are welcome.

The Hungry Priest

The inspiration for this one came out of the blue while I was thinking about some events taking place in my house. No offense meant to anyone. Comments are welcome.

The cook from Palakkad

This is my digital rendition of a cook from Palakkad, Kerala. His name is Mani Iyer. He is an orthodox brahmin cook who caters to all vegetarians. He is dexterous in cutting, steaming and decorating food in pure south Indian style. This character design is based on several persons I have met during my travels. I painted it using Mypaint. Comments are welcome.
